Measure M – Parks for All funding went into effect in April 2019. The City of Santa Rosa has dedicated the first two years of funding (2019 – 2020) estimated at $3.8 million to support the restoration of city parks damaged during the 2017 Sonoma Complex Fires. This includes our wonderful newly restored Coffey Neighborhood Park.
In 2020, City staff began reaching out to engage with the community to determine citizens’ desires for how to prioritize spending the remainder of Santa Rosa’s portion of funding, estimated at $15.3 million, which is to be generated during years 3 -10 (2021 – 2028). Community members have been asked to provide their input through a series of community meetings and workshops held throughout Santa Rosa, and through surveys and online forums. The forums provided time for Q and A and helped walk residents through the online survey. The first meeting was held in February 2020, regarding the city’s NW quadrant, and then the pandemic shut things down. Subsequent online meetings have been conducted with NE, SE and SW via Zoom. The final meeting will be held on Thursday, March 25 and is open to anyone who wants to attend via Zoom. (see box below for information about attending this meeting) Recordings of these meetings are available on the city’s website. (For this purpose the city in divided into four quadrants, formed by the intersection of Highway 101 and Highway 12. Coffey Park is in the Northwest.)
Everyone is encouraged to complete the online survey to let Santa Rosa Parks and Recreation understand how you use the parks and recreation services, and what you think is most important and needs the most attention in regard to these funds. This is the first but will not be the only opportunity to engage on this topic, but is one that will be important for our city leadership to hear from you. Take the survey by April 5.
